Panguin Update 2012 by bhupender

Move Content to a New Domain (Version 1.0) — Just get a new domain and put everything on it exactly like you have it on the old domain and redirect the old domain to the new domain. Disagree

Move Content to a New Domain (Version 2.0) — Ignore the old domain and start over from scratch with a previously unregistered domain, this time doing things “by the book”. Agree

Build Smaller Sites — You may have incurred the Wrath of Penguin because you published 1,000,000 pages on your site so try publishing just 1,000. Disagree

Write Better Content — Stop using Wikipedia’s blended idiom as a minimum standard for content quality and actually write human-comprehensible sentences that make sense. Disagree

Add More Social Buttons — You don’t have enough social media widgets for people to click on. Add more! Disagree

Get Rid of Social Media Buttons — People are not clicking on the damn things. Get rid of them! Agree

Audit Your Website to Identify Bad Areas — Maybe now is the time to run down a long SEO checklist to look for opportunities to improve your site. Agree

Remove Irrelevant Links from Your Website — If your site is about dogs, you should not be linking out to Websites that are dealing with nuclear energy. Disagree

Only Get Backlinks Through Guest Posts — If you’re stuck for ways to get links, then just create content for other Websites that will link back to you. Disagree

Vary the Anchor Texts on Links — If you have been getting keyword-rich anchor text try to “mix it up” by varying the anchor text. Disagree

Decrease the Number of Ads Per Page — If you have been loading up your pages with advertising and you were affected by the Penguin update, get rid of some of the advertising. Disagree

Get Rid of Your Sponsored Links — If you have been selling links and you were affected by Penguin, get rid of your “non-contextual” links. Agree

Stop Taking Shortcuts — What’s a short cut? Agree

Start Using a Content Marketing Strategy — Have you been relying on links? Now you should rely on CONTENT MARKETING! Disagree

Don’t Participate in Shady Link Building Schemes — You’ve been swapping links, spinning articles for networks, spamming forums and blogs — now is the time to stop. Agree

Use the Word “Quality” More — If you have been focusing on LOW quality now is the time to create HIGH quality. Disagree

Make Your Content “User-friendly” — Get rid of ads! Stop spamming through navigation! Stop being a schmuck! Agree

Stop Stuffing Keywords — If your content reads like “KEYWORD something KEYWORD something else KEYWORD” then cut back on your keywords. Agree

Get Rid of Spam Backlinks — You hired someone to give you 100,000 backlinks. Now get rid of them. Disagree

Use Social Media — Google will reward you for using social media. Disagree

Only Link Within Relevant Context — Penguin obviously went after out-of-context linking. Disagree

Avoid Site-wide Links — Site-wide links are evil! Don’t give them! Don’t get them! Disagree

Do Not Exchange Links — Stop exchanging links with other Websites. Disagree

Do Not Use Low Quality Link Directories — If you have been using “SEO friendly” or easy-to-get-into directories, stop. Agree

Use Generic Anchor Text or URLs — Just go for “brand anchor text” or vague, ambiguous, non-keywordy anchor text. Disagree

Get High PR Authority Websites in Your Vertical to Link to You — You obviously got too many links from outside your vertical so clearly you should just annoy the hell out of any site in your vertical that survived Penguin until they link to you. Disagree

Link to your Deep Content the Way Wikipedia Does — Your Website navigation sucks so just republish your content using Wiki software and self-reference your way out of the Penguin Penalty Zone! Disagree

Don’t Put Non-informative Content on Your Site — It’s a blathering mess of something or other to be sure. Disagree

Switch Your Automatic Linking to Slow Drip — Clearly you’re getting links TOO FAST. Google will be fooled if you slow it down to maybe 4.5% of the rate at which your Fiverr links have been coming in. Disagree

Put Real Contact Information on Your Website — Google will clearly see that you mean business if you put your home address and telephone number on your Penguin Penalized blog. Disagree

Read More Google Patents and Theoretical Papers — Clearly all the experts missed something so you should spend more time reverse-engineering Google’s algorithm rather than leave this vital task to someone else (especially someone whose site has NOT been affected by Penguin). Disagree

Add a Video Sitemap — Clearly the lack of XML sitemaps confused Penguin and made it think all those YouTube videos were stolen, duplicate content! Create an XML sitemap for video! Disagree

Use Schema — This stuff is so complicated no one but the recipe sites are using it. Get in on the complications NOW before all the other Penguin victims do! Agree

Quote SEO Aphorisms! — Um, some guy on a blog said something really cool and since I can’t fix Penguin let’s just admire his cleverness. Or maybe move some shit to a subdomain. Disagree

Get Rid of All Machine-made Content — Your article spinning may not be as optimally ideal for your site as that $25 spinning service promised you it would be. Get rid of it. Agree

Get Rid of Dead Links — Even if they are not hurting you with Penguin, dead links are bad for users. Agree

File A Reconsideration Request (Version 1.0) — Tell Google you’re really sorry they mistook your Website for spam but you’ll overlook the past lost month’s revenues if they’ll just let you make money again. Disagree

File A Reconsideration Request (Version 2.0) — Take responsibility for your aggressive “SEO” tendencies and give Google a detailed account of what you did for links and where you got them and what you have done to address keyword-rich content on your site. Agree

Use Latent Semantic Indexing — Even though only a search engine can use latent semantic indexing and even though no search engine *IS* using latent semantic indexing you should switch to this instead of relying on Keyword Density estimates. Disagree

Write for Users As Well as the Search Engine — You should continue to write keyword-rich copy but make it more user-friendly and natural-sounding so that the search engine won’t think you’re only writing for it. Disagree

Get More Spammy Links But Use Different Resources — Google must have only hit THOSE spammy Websites. Now that Aaron Wall and other people with Angry SEO Syndrome have said that “outing SEOs is naughty” no one will DARE tattle on new spammy resources to Google! Get more spammy links from NEW resources you haven’t used before! Disagree

Update Your Best Content Every So Often — Don’t leave what’s working alone! Improve it with powerful upgrades every 30, 60, and 90 days so that Google will think it’s FRESH! NEW! MORE RELEVANT! Disagree

Write Longer Articles — Your articles are too short and correlation studies have shown that the arctic ice caps are melting at the same time! Save the ice caps! Write longer articles! Disagree

Change the Content on Your Home Page EVERY DAY! — Penguin doesn’t like static home pages! Don’t go look at Xenite.Org! Change your home page content often! Disagree

Change Your Page Titles and Meta Descriptions! — Looks like there has been another Google update. Time to change the Page Titles and Meta Descriptions. THAT should show those damned Webspam guys who is boss! Disagree

Consolidate Your Crappy Subdomains into Folders! — Well, the subdomain tricks didn’t work so let’s move everything back to the main domain and put it all in dedicated folders. Use only isolated, dedicated circuits in case of a power outage! Disagree

Review Your Technical SEO Implementation — Make sure robots.txt, XML sitemaps, search engine webmaster registrations, etc. are up-to-date. Get rid of duplicate content. Agree
